Ten Days in Life of Ulyana Zakharenko

We are starting a solidarity action with the 92-year-old mother of the former interior minister of Belarus Yury Zakharenko disappeared 17 years ago. We have exactly ten days to show the authorities by our common efforts that Ulyana Zakharenko is not alone in her struggle for establishing the truth about the fate of her son.

On 1 August, the Minsk City Court will examine her complaint against a ruling of the Oktyabrsky District Court of the City of Minsk. Judge Olga Birulya has not considered necessary to meet the mother's request for the recognition of Yury Zakharenko as a deceased person suspending the proceedings on formal grounds.

Ulyana Zakharenko and her family have every right to moral and psychological and social rehabilitation. The mission of the authorities is to make it possible today, not after an indefinite period of time.

"I have got long years – it is necessary to do all quickly," Uliana Zakharenko says.
